7 Tips to recover quickly from C-Section

You’ve just met one of the most important people in your life, your baby. It’s an amazing feeling! You giggle thinking about the adventure you have embarked upon and…ouch! If you welcomed your baby through a C-Section delivery you need some extra time to recover. The stitches hurt and they hurt bad. Well, this is something that you might need to get used to, for a few weeks at least. But there are things that you can do to manage your pain better and in ways that will make you heal faster. Let’s get to that now.

For easy recovery from C-Section

  1. Get lots and lots of rest

Babies are small but very demanding! They need lots of care and attention around the clock. But they do sleep a lot too. It’s very important that you sleep whenever your baby does. The more you rest, the faster you will heal from your C-Section surgery. So, ensure you get as much rest as possible.

  1. Ask for help

Changing diapers, bathing and feeding the baby, all require constant moving around, bending, twisting, etc. Don’t hesitate to ask for help whenever you need to pick something up or lift something heavy after you had a C-Section delivery. You might end up hurting your stitches if you don’t take care of these little but critical things.

  1. Take medicines on time

Let’s face it. Going through a C-Section is undergoing major surgery. You should take the medication your doctor has prescribed on time to ensure you are comfortable. Pain medications help you in the initial days to manage your pain. So, don’t delay them. Take them at regular intervals so that you cope with the pain.

  1. Walk around!

Exercise is not something that you can do right away. Like I said, your body needs rest. However, walking around helps to keep the blood circulating and this makes sure there are no blood clots anywhere near your incision.

  1. Watch what you eat

Eating a well-balanced diet and drinking plenty of water goes a long way in healing well. Your body needs all the nutrients to feed your baby and to recover from the surgery. So, keep an eye on your diet and make sure that a good amount of protein, fibre and good fats are a part of it.

  1. Take simple precautions that your doctor has advised

Taking the stairs, lifting things other than your baby, bending too much- all of these put a strain on your stitches. Follow the advice your doctor has given you to avoid pain and ensure proper healing. Simple things like placing a pillow over your stitches when you cough or laugh can keep the stitches in check.

  1. Talk to friends, family and your doctor

Pregnancy and eventually giving birth play havoc on your hormones. Mood swings and having post-partum depression are not uncommon. Having a positive attitude is important to be able to heal quickly. Whenever you feel low, its good to talk to someone in your friends or family circle who has gone through the process of recovering from a C-section. It will give you the confidence that you can do this! If you feel something is amiss, it does help to talk to your doctor about it so that you feel reassured. So, do not hesitate to reach out to people, it will surely help!

So, these are a few things that will help you bounce back from a C-section quickly. Having a good hospital and a doctor you are comfortable with are also extremely important to ensure safe delivery and recovery
