How do I prepare for this tests? What is required for this diagnostic tests to happen?

  • Hysterosalpingography (HSG) is a diagnostic imaging test used to evaluate the uterus and fallopian tubes for abnormalities that may affect fertility. Here are some tips on how to prepare for an HSG:

  • Schedule the test between day 7 and day 10 of your menstrual cycle, when you are least likely to be pregnant.

  • Inform your doctor if you have a history of pelvic infections or sexually transmitted diseases, as this may increase the risk of infection after the procedure.

  • Take a mild pain reliever, such as ibuprofen, 30 minutes to an hour before the procedure to help with any discomfort.

  • Wear comfortable clothing, as you will need to undress from the waist down for the procedure.

  • Arrange for someone to drive you home, as you may experience some cramping and dizziness after the procedure.

  • During the HSG procedure, a thin catheter is inserted into the cervix, and a dye is injected into the uterus and fallopian tubes. This dye allows the doctor to view the structures on an X-ray machine or fluoroscope. The test takes about 30 minutes to complete, and you will be asked to remain still during the procedure. After the test, you may experience some cramping and spotting, which should subside within a day or two. It's important to follow your doctor's instructions for any post-procedure care and follow-up appointments.
